GAME ON!

Challenge Quick Guide

A two-page printable guide for facilitators and volunteers

GAME ON! Challenges add a little friendly competition to group activities while helping your program capture engagement along the way. The goal isn't to test anyone — it's to create more reasons to participate, cheer each other on, and have fun.

  1. Count your players

Enter how many people are participating today.
    Attendance does not earn points.

  2. Make two teams: 🔴 Red vs. 🔵 Blue

    Split the room roughly evenly.

No rosters. No permanent teams. Someone can be Red today and Blue next time.

  3. Play!

Run the GAME ON! activity normally.

When Red earns a point → tap + Red
When Blue earns a point → tap + Blue

GAME ON! automatically updates today's score and the four-week Challenge.

  4. Add a win when it happens

    Hydration Win

    Someone takes/drinks an offered beverage.

    Maverick Mile

Someone shares an enriching or meaningful activity they did outside the program.

    Personal Win

Someone or a caregiver shares a specific accomplishment.

    Special Life Event

Someone shares a birthday, anniversary, trip, family milestone, etc.

Don't hunt for points. Don't interrupt the activity to document. If it happens naturally, tap it and keep going.

  5. Celebrate today

Today's winner gets the bragging rights.
But both teams' points continue feeding the 4-Week Challenge.

  6. After four weeks

Celebrate the Challenge winner, celebrate the whole group's accomplishments, then reset and start fresh.

GAME ON!

The Point Is Participation — Not Points

People experiencing cognitive change don't all participate in the same way. One person may know every trivia answer. Another may sing along, encourage teammates, share a story, or simply enjoy being part of the group.

GAME ON! uses competition to create energy — not to identify who's “best.”

Do

  • Keep Red vs. Blue playful.
  • Cheer both teams.
  • Accept different ways of participating.
  • Keep the pace moving.
  • Celebrate small wins.
  • Let someone join midway through.
  • Change teams freely from session to session.

Don't

  • Quiz or pressure someone who doesn't want to answer.
  • Call attention to someone's cognitive difficulty.
  • Give points for attendance.
  • Keep individual scores.
  • Worry about who was Red or Blue last time.
  • Stop the activity to complete documentation.

The bonus: GAME ON! does the counting

While your group plays, GAME ON! quietly captures useful program information such as sessions played, participant-visits, game interactions, and Challenge activity. Facilitators can add a few simple Wins with one tap.

You run the program. GAME ON! helps capture the story of the program.

Remember

Keep it light. Keep it moving. Keep everyone in the game.
